James Schwagerl, 87, died on May 7, 2015, in Browns Valley, Minnesota.

jamesschwagerlMass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Browns Valley on Tuesday, May 19, at 2:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the Mass.

Father David Breu will officiate and burial will be at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery.

James Edward Schwagerl was born on May 30, 1927, on a farm southwest of Beardsley to Vincent and Rose (Wolter) Schwagerl. Contracting polio at age three months meant many long stays at Gillette Hospital in St. Paul where he underwent several leg operations. Even though braces were needed on both legs, he helped with the farm chores and attended eight grades in country school. After high school in Browns Valley and two years of business college in Fargo, he married Delores Nigg and continued farming until retirement.

James served on the Folsom Town Board and Cenex Tri-County Co-op Board of Directors, was Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus, and President of Browns Valley Alumni Association. He and Delores enjoyed taking many trips around the country, and spent many winters in Arizona, where sitting on the patio reading was one of his favorite past-times. They also had a lot of fun playing cards with friends.

James is survived by his daughter Vicki, grandson Dillon, sister Kathleen, and many nieces and nephews.

James is preceded in death by his wife, son Bruce, daughter Jeanne, mother and father, and brother Larry.
