Leonard Hoppe

 

Leonard Hoppe, age 93, of Graceville, died on Monday, June 15, 2015, at Grace Home.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 20, at 10:30 a.m. at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Graceville with Rev. Eugene Andrus officiating. Burial will follow in the Graceville Consolidated Cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Saturday.

Casket bearers will be Leonard’s grandchildren: Darin Seifert, Darcy Seifert, Michelle Buerkle, Stacy Stotesbery, Jeffrey Hoppe, Corey Hoppe, Travis Hoppe, Chad Hoppe, Christopher Hoppe, Sarah Nelson, Courtney Braun, and Tyler Braun. Honorary bearers include Leonard’s great-grandchildren: Mitchell Buerkle, Brendon Buerkle, Bryan Buerkle, Cole Henry, Landon Hoppe, Harper Jo Hoppe, Bentley Hoppe, Hudson Hoppe, and Braxtyn Ostby, as well as the staff and residents of Grace Home.

Leonard Walter Hoppe was born on June 27, 1921, in Alliance Township, Clay County, Minnesota, to August F. and Charlotte (Ernst) Hoppe. He grew up and attended school through the eighth grade in Sabin, Minnesota. Leonard then began farming, a passion he had the pleasure to pursue for his entire life.

On June 24, 1944, Leonard was united in marriage to Marian Margaret Rosenfeldt in Sabin. To this union, five children were born. After marriage, the family remained in Sabin until 1954, when they moved to Graceville.

Leonard was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Graceville. He enjoyed spending time outdoors golfing, fishing, and walking. He and Marian loved to travel and especially enjoyed taking trips to Alaska, celebrating their wedding anniversary. Leonard took great pleasure in spending time with his many friends and visiting with them at the coffee shop. Most important to Leonard though was his family and he cherished every moment spent as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Left with his loving memory are his children: Diana (Larry) Seifert of Dumont, MN; Deborah (Steve) Stotesbery of Graceville, MN; Terrance (Jean) Hoppe of Graceville, MN; Gregory (Kathy) Hoppe of Graceville, MN; and Cheri Braun of Rosholt, SD; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; friend, Hildred Issendorf of Morris, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marian; one great-grandson, Rylan; son-in-law, Vic Braun; two brothers; four sisters; and an infant sibling.
