The Milbank Firechiefs suffered a close 3-2 loss in 10 innings to number-one seeded Clark in a semi-final matchup of the district amateur baseball tournament Sunday in Volga.

A defensive stance by both teams held the score at 0-0 through the first five innings of play. Milbank was the first to produce runs on the scoreboard with two runs in the sixth inning. Clark came back to knot the score at 2-2 with two runs in the eighth. Clark then plated a run in the bottom of the 10th inning to snatch the win from Milbank.

Matt Stephan led the Chiefs with two hits including a double. Ronnie Krause, Lance Frogner and Taylor Boerger added one hit each to Milbank’s five hits for the contest. Boerger also had two RBIs.

Frogner was credited with the loss on the mound for the locals. He went nine and 2/3 innings and struck out 11 batters. He allowed just three runs and six walks.

Milbank will face Volga Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Volga. The winner will advance to the state tournament in Mitchell August 5-16. The loser will play Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
