Milbank VFW Teeners Win First Round Region Tourney Matchup

The Milbank VFW Teener team cruised to a 7-0 victory over Groton in its first game of the region tournament last night at Legion Field in Milbank.

Milbank got off to a quick start with one run in both the first two innings and two in the third. The locals sealed the deal with three additional runs plated in the sixth inning. Groton had its chances with seven hits in the game, but the Teeners defense held them scoreless.

Dylan Johnson led Milbank with two hits and three runs scored. Jonny Ash added one hit, one run, one walk and two stolen bases while Cole Dockter had one hit, one run, one walk and one stolen base. Mitch Quade contributed one hit and one walk, and Taran Mogard had one hit, which was a double, and one run for the locals.

Also adding to the score book for Milbank were Tanner Gauer, one run and one stolen base, and Jake Anderson, one walk.

In the other opening game of the tournament, Sisseton edged out Mobridge 17-16. Milbank will take on Sisseton at 5 p.m. today (Thursday) in semi-final play. Mobridge and Groton face off at 3 p.m. today with the winner taking on the loser from the Milbank/Sisseton contest. The championship is slated for 5 p.m. Friday.
