Progress Being Made on New Milbank Area Hospital

The building site for the new Milbank Area Hospital Avera and Avera Medical Group clinic is progressing on schedule for the expected completion date of late fall 2016.

The new state-of-the-art 78,000 square foot facility located on 18 acres in east Milbank adjacent to State Auto and the American Lutheran Church is currently erecting steel and installing steel decking. Above ground two areas of structural walls are going up while underground plumbing and electrical are being placed.

Steel erection should be completed by mid-September when they will also start working on the roofing. In late September they will begin framing the interior steel stud walls and the HVAC ductwork.

At this time they have completed approximately 25% of the project with 18,500 man hours. When the project is completed the building will have 134 columns, 329 beams, 700 steel joists and 200,000 bricks placed.

The Northeast South Dakota Healthcare Foundation is still actively seeking the remaining $200,000 to reach their $5,000,000 capital campaign goal for the project.

“This community has been incredibly supportive of this project,” said Jim Gesswein, NESDHCF chair, “However, as we start to look at purchasing equipment for the facility we continue to have financial needs to see this project to completion.”
