Daniel Van Stralen

Daniel Van Stralen, age 60, of Milbank, died Monday, September 14, 2015.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 21, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank with Father Gary DeRouchey celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, September 20, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday for one hour prior to the time of service at the church.

Daniel (“Susie”) Mario Van Stralen was born on December 6, 1954, in Milbank to Bernard and Gladys (VanHout) Van Stralen. He attended school in Milbank and later received his GED. Daniel then furthered his education, attending South Dakota State University and Vo-Tech school.

Daniel held a variety of jobs. He worked at Menards, helped farm, and spent time working on a ranch in Colorado. Daniel was a caring person and he was privileged to care for two dying people in his home. His loving nature often showed in his generosity to others and Daniel was always one to give to those who had nothing. Daniel was always the life of the party and had a wonderful ability to make others smile. He will be greatly missed by many.

Daniel was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank.

Left with his loving memory are his sisters: Marianne (Dale) Lantis of Milbank; Marge (Bob) Hopkins of Gainesville, MO; Pat (Ed Hart) Van Stralen of Olympia, WA; Char Calvin of Omaha, NE; brothers: Frank (Cathy) Van Stralen of Riverside, CA; Mike Van Stralen of Des Moines, IA; Steve Van Stralen of Omaha, NE; and many nieces and nephews.

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents.
