The Milbank Area Lady Bulldogs were shut out 3-0 by a solid Sioux Valley team in high school volleyball Tuesday, September 22, at the Milbank Armory. Milbank Area dropped to 5-7 on the season with the loss.

Playing with an interrupted lineup, the Lady Bulldogs struggled in the first set and fell 25-5. The team managed to rally, but dropped the next two sets 25-14 and 25-15 to take the loss. Two members of the team were unable to play. Rachelle Gabriel and Madi Schulte were on the disabled list, but both are expected to return for Thursday’s match with Britton-Hecla.

Caryssa Mielitz led the Lady Bulldog attack with nine kills on 30-31 hitting and one ace on 6-7 serving. Molly Rick followed with five kills on 17-24 hitting. Mikaela Hoeke went 37-37 setting with eight assists and six digs while Mackayla Schuelke was 34-34 setting with eight assists, 6-6 serving and had 11 digs. Katie Cannedy rounded out the highlights with two aces on 8-9 serving and 12 digs.

Junior Varsity and C Team – The Milbank Area junior varsity team fell 2-0 to Sioux Valley with scores of 25-18 and 25-17. The Lady Bulldogs hold a 4-3 season record. Alexis Folk led the offense with four kills on 16-17 hitting and went 8-8 serving. Mady Hilbrands was 8-10 hitting and had five digs. Jaecy Engebretson went 10-10 setting with three assists, and Maty Lightfield was 12-12 setting with two assists, 9-9 serving and had four digs. Tonya Meyer chipped in with four digs. The Milbank Area C team lost 2-0 to the Cossacks by scores of 25-19 and 25-20, and fell to 2-3 on the season.
