Bulldog Golfers Prepare For Region Play

The Milbank Area boys golf team wrapped up its regular season and prepares for the Region 1A golf tournament in hopes of earning a berth to the state Class A meet.

Milbank will host the Region 1A meet Monday, September 28, at Pine Hills Golf Course. Golfers will tee off at 10 a.m. Teams competing in the event include Aberdeen Roncalli, Dell Rapids, Flandreau Indian School, Groton Area, Madison, McCook Central-Montrose, Milbank Area, Sioux Valley, Sisseton and Tri-Valley. The top three teams and top 60% in the individual standings will advance to the state meet slated for Monday and Tuesday, October 5-6, at Pine Hills Golf Course in Milbank.

The Dawgs concluded their regular season at the Sisseton Invitational meet Thursday, September 24. Milbank Area was seventh in the team standings with a score of 408. Sisseton won its home meet with a team score of 343. Aberdeen Roncalli was second with a 351 while Groton Area took third at 374. Rounding out the team standings were Sioux Valley, 382; Watertown JV, 390; Redfield-Doland, 402, and Milbank Area.

Adam Thomas led the young Bulldogs with a 18-hole round of 95. He shot a 50 on the front nine and a 45 on the back. Isaac Nolz followed closely with a 99 (49-50). Noah Pillatzki finished with a 104 (59-45) while Will Mischel shot a 110 (56-54) for the day. Other Bulldog golfers were Casey Buttke, 120 (65-55), and Chase Pinkert, 140 (77-63).

“I feel that everybody has improved throughout the year,” noted head coach Mark Keeton. “Unfortunately we are having a hard time getting four good scores on any given day. If we are going to score well at regions we need to eliminate our mistakes from 50 yards and in. Going into Regions, I feel Dell Rapids and Madison are the top two teams, but you never know.”
