The Milbank Area Chamber of Commerce held their annual meeting at the Lantern Inn on Thursday, September, 24. Connie Larson, Executive Director, addressed the group. She forecasted a great business year and cited the recent boomlet of 16 businesses to the area and the chamber’s roster as an indicator of the vitality of economic growth in the Valley.

Larson also said, “while many local businesses have been involved with the Chamber for years, and she couldn’t do what she does without them, adding members shakes things up a little. Keeps things fresh.”

Variety is something she always aims to give back, too. Last year’s Chamber activities included a rock concert and a country concert, 1000 treats given away on Halloween’ s Treat Street, 300 root beer floats served at National Night Out, 100 guests at the Farmers’ Breakfast, 100 moviegoers to the screening at Lake Farley park of “Frozen,” 83 vendors at the Farm and Home Show, and bushels of produce, vendors, and shoppers each week at the Farmer’s Market. She applauded the businesses formaking all these events such a success and said she is constantly searching for new ideas and venues.

The Chamber members held an election of officers and Jason Kettwig past President was on hand to introduce Vice President Elect Denice Hooth and Treasurer Elect Dan Sorenson. President Chris Kelly introduced Cheri Meager and Chely Wellnitz, also new board members.

Of course, what’s a Chamber event without a little fun? After dinner, Laura Kelly, Chamber Administrative Assistant, helped to auction off mystery boxes containing prizes. Contents ranged from a variety of foods to Twins tickets complete with hotel accommodations. Proceeds benefit the Grant County Combined Appeal.
