Vern Fryer, age 75, of Milbank, died Saturday, October 31, 2015, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at American Lutheran Church in Milbank with Rev. Carl Larson officiating. Burial will follow in the Milbank City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, November 4, at Mundwiler Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Thursday.

Casket bearers will be Jeff Fryer, Mike Fryer, Harold Fryer, Mary Hanson, Justin Pearson, Bob Wincott, and Chris Madsen. Honorary bearers include Jim Nelson, Charlie Kwasniewski, Tim DeJong, and Gary Speth.

Vern Royce Fryer was born on February 2, 1940, in Sisseton, SD, to Roy George and Mae Elizabeth (Fitz) Fryer. He attended country school through the eighth grade. At the age of 17, Vern enlisted in the United States Navy. He served his country for the next 20 years, achieving a E-8 status as a Senior Chief Petty Officer, until his honorable discharge. Following his discharge, Vern worked for 5 years at Hunter Granite Quarry before he began his employment at United Hardware for 20years.

On April 10, 1962, Vern was united in marriage with Mary Lou Niles. To this union, two daughters were born.

Vern enjoyed auto mechanics and spent much of his time gardening and doing yard work. Vern also took pleasure in traveling and lived in a variety of places.

Left with Vern’s memory are his daughters, Kimberlea (Robert Wincott) Fryer of Hamilton, NJ and Michelle (Duane) Fryer Hanson of Sioux Falls, SD; one granddaughter, Mary; two sisters, Vera Majesty of Minneapolis, MN and Verla Sundstrom of Webster, SD; three brothers, Darold (Barb) Fryer of Sisseton, SD, Harold (Janet) Fryer of Peever, SD, and Norman (Sandy) Fryer of Browns Valley, MN; sister-in-law, Rena (Tim) Ramsey of Milbank; brother-in-law, Mickey (Karen) Niles of Chamberlain; brother-in-law, Herk (Joan) Niles of Watertown; and many nieces and nephews.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Mary on January 3, 2005.
