The Milbank Area Lady Bulldogs open up the Region 1A high school volleyball tournament today when they face the Tiospa Zina Wambdi at 4:30 p.m. at the Milbank Armory.

Milbank Area is seeded number two in the region while TZ is number seven. “I feel that we have a good draw,” said head coach Nancy Hoeke. “We are ready to get to the gym and play.” Tiospa Zina finished the regular season at 6-22. While the opponent seems to have had a down season, Hoeke feels the locals need to do what they do and be ready to play hard and take one game at a time.

The Lady Bulldogs wrapped up the regular season Monday, October 26, and have had just over a week to prepare for region play. “We have been fine tuning some things,” explained Hoeke. “We try to work on more strategy and getting the players to connect with each other. The girls should be able to recognize opportunities when they are in a rally and take advantage when they see them.”

The region tournament is do or die time, as the saying goes. The winners advance while the losers end their season. The winner will face the winner of the Webster Area/Britton-Hecla matchup in semi-final action Thursday, November 5.
