JoAnn Minder, age 81, of Milbank, died Thursday, November 5, 2015, at Jenkins Living Center in Watertown.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 9, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank with Rev. Keith Bicknase officiating. Burial will follow in the Milbank City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, November 8, at Mundwiler Funeral Home and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on

Casket bearers include Craig Anderson, Mick Redmond, Nathan Minder, Nicole Minder, Stephanie Weber, and Pat Kwarciany.

JoAnn Mae Minder was born on April 28, 1934, in Summit, SD, to Martin and Irene (Vangen) Hagen. She grew up on a farm near Summit, graduating from Summit High School. On May 24, 1952, JoAnn was united in marriage to Delton Leroy Minder at Christ Lutheran Church in Wilmot, SD. To this union, four children were born. Following their marriage, they lived in Fort Collins, CO while Delton served in the military. Due to an outbreak of polio, they returned to South Dakota and began farming southeast of Milbank. In 1967, they moved to Milbank, where JoAnn continued to reside even after Delton’s death in 2010.

JoAnn was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank. She volunteered for the Orphan Grain Train and Community Thrift Store. JoAnn cooked for the Milbank school system for 28 years. She took great pride in raising her children and treasured time spent with her family and grandchildren.

JoAnn is survived by her daughter: Janelle (Patrick) Kwarciany of Johnson Creek, WI; sons: Darwin (Cindy) Minder of Lennox, SD and Kevin (Janet) Minder of Valley Center, KS; daughter-in-law, Val Minder of Robbinsdale, MN; seven grandchildren: Stephanie Weber, Danielle Carmichael, Nicole Minder, Nathan Minder, Sara Minder, Alyssa Kwarciany, and Wyatt Kwarciany; two great-grandchildren: Ellie Carmichael and Camden Weber; two sisters: Harriet (Sam) Sangrey of San Diego, CA and Janice Gallacher of Prescott, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delton Minder on March 28, 2010; son, Bryan Minder on May 17, 2013; and two brothers: Charles and Myron Hagen.

The family of JoAnn Minder would like to thank the staff of Cedar View Assisted Living, Jenkins Living Center, and the hospice staff for their loving care. JoAnn will be greatly missed by many.
