Lady Bulldogs Tip Off Season with Scrimmage

Milbank Area Lady Bulldogs are set to tip off their 2015-16 high school basketball season with a public scrimmage Thursday, December 3, at 7 p.m. at the Koch School gym. Fans are asked to bring a bottle of water or sports drink for admission. The beverages will be served to the players at out-of-town games.

Head coach Joe Frederiksen heads into his sixth season leading the Lady Bulldogs and has a 60-51 overall coaching record. He will be assisted by Jolene Rick and Eric Townsend.

Milbank Area has several holes to fill from a strong senior class that graduated last year. Leading the team are seniors: Shelby Hooth, Tori Brandenburger, Cara Berkner, Mikayla Street, and foreign exchange student Thanyanat Maneerat from Thailand.

Other returning letter winners are: Mackayla Schuelke, Mikaela Hoeke, Caryssa Mielitz, Karlee Mertens, and Molly Rick.

Younger players who will vie for varsity positions include: Shea Hooth, Sophia Seffrood, Clare Van Dover, Ashley Wollschlager, Katie VanderWal, LaChasity Finley, and Faith Brandenburger.

Rounding out the roster are freshmen: Elisabeth Schwenn, Jaden Hoeke, Chloe Bender, Makayla Johnson, Kylie Kasuske, Kylie Roggenbuck, Taylor Thue, Kellie Christians, Gabbi Cummins, Ana Mathews, Tonya Meyers, and Katie Wollschlager.

“We hope to play a more up-tempo game this season,” noted Frederiksen. “We will need to push the ball more on offense and have better starts to our games.” The team hopes to be competitive and be in the hunt for a state tournament appearance.

Other teams to watch in the Northeast Conference and region include Webster Area, Hamlin, and Aberdeen Roncalli. Milbank Area will battle Roncalli, Britton-Hecla, Groton Area, Sisseton, Tiospa Zina, and Webster Area in the region tournament.
