The 2016 Milbank youth wrestling program is hosting a registration and parent meeting Tuesday, December 8, at 5:30 p.m. in the high school lunchroom.

“It’s never too late to be involved in a life-long learning experience,” stated Milbank wrestling booster club president Ron Krause. “Even if you have never been involved in wrestling or have not wrestled for several years, you are welcome to join the Milbank wrestling community.”

Practices will run from January 4 through April 3 in the high school wrestling room. The program is open to athletes ages pre-kindergarten to sixth grade. Wrestlers in second grade and under will practice Mondays and Thursdays from 6 to 7 p.m. Wrestlers in grades three and above will practice Mondays and Thursdays from 7 to 8 p.m. and Tuesdays from 6 to 7 p.m.

Milbank will host two home meets this season. The first is slated for Sunday, January 10, with the large traditional meet scheduled for Sunday, February 7. Prior to each practice, coaches will announce upcoming weekend tournaments. Flyers as well as the Milbank wrestling calendar can be found at www.eteamz.com/milbankwrestlingboosterclub2/.

Parents or guardians are responsible for getting their wrestler to and from the weekend tourneys. “We encourage our wrestlers to attend as many weekend tournaments as possible, but the number each youth wrestler attends is up to each individual family,” noted Krause. Wrestlers will also have the opportunity to participate in AAU district, region and state tournaments. These tournaments are sponsored by the SD Wrestling Coaches Association. Tentative dates are March 5 for districts, March 12 for regions and April 2-3, state in Aberdeen.

“We also encourage all youth wrestlers to support our varsity team this season,” stated Jason Kettwig, booster club vice-president. “Milbank will host the Northeast Conference meet this year on December 19, and we hope our young kids will get out and watch the big boys and support our high school team.”

Coaches for the youth program include Ronnie Krause, Jessie Krause, Brian Schneck and Jon Christensen. Board members are Ron Krause, president; Jason Kettwig, vice-president, and Sherri Schneck, treasurer.

Membership is $35 per wrestler or $60 per family plus $14 AAU card for each wrestler. There will also be a $60 deposit for the singlet (uniform) that will be refunded once the singlet is returned at the conclusion of the season. Scholarships are available for those that need help. Please inquire with Sherri Schneck at 605-237-2377. All inquiries will be confidential.

For additional information or questions, contact Ron Krause at 880-5840 or Kettwig at 949-2747.
