Tuchscherer earned the highest mark in the serious reading division with The Belle of Amherst by William Luce, while Schreurs earned a superior for her humorous reading of Miss Beth by Don Zolidis.

A superior rating at the state festival indicates that the student earned a superior rating by at least two of the judges in the event.

Also participating in the festival were Devon Balling, Taylor Balling, Allison Grear, Korinne Roggenbuck and Nathan Loutsch. The Milbank team earned a Team Excellence award for their overall performances.

All schools demonstrating high levels of performance at the state festival are presented the award, which indicates that Milbank earned at least two superiors as a team.

The local students are coached by Laura Maag.

Milbank competed against teams from 55 schools which make up Class A.
