_DSC0057The Milbank Area Bulldogs held on for a 58-54 non-conference boys basketball victory over the Castlewood Warriors Tuesday, February 2, for its fourth win of the season. The locals improved to 4-10 overall.

The Dawgs trailed by two points at 19-17 after one quarter of play. Milbank Area came back to overtake the advantage at 32-30 at the midway mark. The Bulldogs extended its lead to 47-41 heading into the final stanza, and held on for the 58-54 win.

“I was really proud of the guys for pulling this out,” noted head coach Matt Bastian. “We had built a nice lead only to see them make a run and tie it up at 47-47. Our guys pulled together on defense and got a couple of stops at a crucial point. This was a great win as we had to execute some out-of-bounds plays down the stretch to pull this out.”

Nate Bien led the Bulldogs with 22 points and four rebounds. Nolan Foss produced a double-double with 13 rebounds and 12 points. Jacob Jackson followed closely with 11 points, two boards, two steals, one assist and three turnovers. Isaac Snaza dropped in six points, grabbed four rebounds and had one blocked shot and one steal in the contest.

Also contributing for the locals were Derrick Aho, three points; Jonny Ash, two points, two rebounds, one steal and one turnover; Tanner Gauer, two points and three rebounds; Matt Lenards, two rebounds and one assist, and James Weber, one assist and one turnover.

Milbank Area went 18 for 49 from the field for 37 percent shooting on the night. The Dawgs secured the victory with 40 rebounds, six steals, three assists, one blocked shot and seven turnovers.

Castlewood made 36 percent of its shots from the field, making 20 of 55 attempts. The opponent ended the game with 41 rebounds, six steals, one assist and six turnovers.
