cancerwalkdonationThe It Only Takes A Spark Cancer Walk core committee recently donated $2,500 to the Milbank Avera Cancer Support Group. The donation will help to continue their efforts in educating and supporting individuals and families affected by cancer.

“The cancer support group is a great way for people to help each other,” explained core committee member Matt Scott. “This is the second year we have contributed and we encourage anyone who is dealing with cancer to attend. Anyone who has family or friends dealing with cancer, it’s a great way to educate yourself about the things that person is facing.”

Committee member Aaron Anderson also noted, “As a cancer survivor, I think that it is important to talk to other people going through the same illness. It is a different language and no one understands the feelings you have unless you have experienced it yourself. That is why I think it is important to fund such a group. A person can get pretty vulnerable and needs to rely on others to help you fight. Trust me, it helps talking to others who have or are going through it.”

A portion of the funds raised from last year’s walk contributed to this donation. “A large majority of funds raised continues to go to the people of Grant County affected by cancer,” said Scott.
