Bill Steinlicht, board president for 14 years, stepped down from his seat. “Bill has been an active member of the association along with his wife, Kathy,” stated Melissa Schuneman, incoming president. “Bill decided to take a step back from the board and will now serve as the administrative assistant to help out new members unfamiliar with how the association functions.”

Nancy Meyer, who has served as the secretary/registrar for six years, also decided to resign her position. Renee Locke will take over her duties. Also elected were Caroline Priebe, vice president, and Krista Atyeo-Gortmaker, treasurer. “Krista is serving her fourth two-year term as treasurer,” said Schuneman. Kay O’Farrell is the at-large board member.

Spring soccer registration will start online Monday, March 7, at grantcountysoccer.com. Walk-in registration is set for Monday, March 14, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Milbank High School lobby. Fees for U6 and U8 are $35. Fees for U10 and U12 are $45. There is a $90 fee cap per family. A child who has a parent that is also a coach will play free for the season.

“This year, in order to make coaching more stress-free and less intimidating, the association will put on a coaching clinic,” said Schuneman. “During this clinic, we will go over the rules of the game, expectations of the coaches, and online resources coaches can refer to for practice ideas and drills. Coaches will also receive their coaching bag with supplies for the season.”

The coaching clinic is scheduled for Thursday, April 7. Coaches for U6 and U8 will meet at Peace Lutheran Church in Milbank from 6 to 7 p.m. and the U10 and U12 coaches will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Pizza will be served. “Coaching soccer is a fun, rewarding, and appreciated position,” s aid Schuneman. “Please consider taking the time to make a difference in a child’s life.”
