_IMG8366T_VPDPeggy Schuelke of rural Revillo announced her candidacy for the South Dakota District 4 House of Representatives position. She is running for one of two seats in District 4, which is comprised of Grant, Deuel, and sections of Codington and Brookings counties.

“District 4 consists entirely of small communities and farms,” stated Schuelke. “Our local businesses are dependent on the success of our agricultural producers for their continued growth and survival. Our concerns and needs are not the same as those of the residents of larger communities in South Dakota. I can be the effective voice for our district in Pierre.”

Peggy is a Grant County native. She grew up on a farm near Marvin and graduated from Milbank High School. She earned a degree in Nursing from Augustana College in Sioux Falls and a graduate degree in Nursing from South Dakota State University. Since 1991, she and her husband, Jeff, have lived and operated a family farm near Revillo. Peggy has worked at the Avera Medical Group Clinics in Revillo and Milbank as a Family Nurse Practitioner since 1993.

“I believe that we need to concentrate on legislation that makes life better for the people of South Dakota. Medicaid expansion is a priority. As a health care provider, I have seen many examples of people who have not obtained necessary medical care because they fall into the insurance gap that Medicaid expansion was supposed to fill,” Schuelke stated. “South Dakota has left millions of dollars unclaimed that would have benefited our citizens and our state.”

Schuelke served on the Grant-Deuel school board for 9 years. She also has served as a member of various professional, church, and community groups. She and her husband are the parents of five grown children and have five grandchildren.

“I am looking forward to talking to voters during the coming election season,” she said. Schuelke can be reached at 605-623-4228 or at schuelkefordistrict4@gmail.com.
