Edith Jane Davis was born on May 2, 1930, in Ogilvie, MN, to John and Bernice (Madsen) Trupe of the Wilmot, SD community. She was the oldest of six children. At the age of seven, Jane was baptized in Pocahontas, IA. She started school in Pocahontas but continued her elementary education in the Wilmot community, graduating from Wilmot High School with the class of 1948.

On August 19, 1948, Jane was united in marriage with Robert M. Davis. To this union four children were born. Robert and Jane farmed hand-in-hand throughout the years of raising their family.

Jane decided to work out of the family home and became the Deputy Director of Equalization from 1966 until 1974. At that time she was appointed by the Grant County Commissioners to perform the duties of the Grant County Register of Deeds and continued to work in that office until 1994 when she retired. It was an honor for Jane to be elected to serve as the State President of the South Dakota County Officials Association during the year of 1985 and 1986. Being a public servant for Grant County was a privilege and serving the public for many years was a rewarding honor to Jane. She enjoyed her time with her coworkers and the people of Grant County.

Jane was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Milbank. During the years her children grew into adulthood, she also taught Sunday School at the First Congregational Church of Milbank.

Jane greatly enjoyed her retirement, keeping active with Christian Women’s Club and several Bible Studies. She also took pleasure in finding time to enjoy the Red Hat Ladies for fun and laughter. Jane not only loved to be a public servant but also loved people in general. She especially adored her family; spending time with her four children and their spouses, plus the nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, was a special time for all.

Left to cherish Jane’s memory is her husband of 67 years, Robert “Bob” Davis of Milbank, SD; daughters: Glenda (Ted) Silkey of Watertown, SD, and Brenda Reiners of Parker, CO; sons: Wade Davis of Ashby, MN, and Wyatt (Cindy) Davis of Twin Brooks, SD; nine grandchildren: Kimberly (Rob) Byrne, Kristina Reiners, Chad Oehler, Dustin Oehler, Matthew Davis, Joshua Davis, Kayla (Chris) Borchardt, Alesia (Jon) Christensen, and Clinton (Melissa) Davis; ten great-grandchildren: Brianna Reiners, Arron Oehler, Aric Oehler, Austin Oehler, Brayden Christensen, Grant Christensen, Darby Bullock, Connor Borchardt, Brody Byrne, and Byren Davis; sister, Beverly Rosel of San Antonio, TX; brother, Robert (Marlys) Trupe of Rapid City, SD; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary Determan; brothers, Pal and Glen Trupe; and granddaughter, Tina Marie Oehler.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the Grant County Cancer Walk.
