_DSC0231The Milbank Area boys and girls track teams both came away with victories at the Deuel Kiwanis Invitational track and field meet April 19, in Clear Lake. New meet and school records were set and two relay teams punched their tickets to the state meet.

The boys team ran off with first place by tallying 160 points. In the process, the 400-meter and 800-meter relay teams qualified for the state meet and set a new meet record in both events. The 400-meter relay team of Kyle Montag, Cole Dockter, Jake Anderson, and Tanner Gauer beat the state standard with a time of :44.45 and moved to the fifth spot on the MHS all-time honor roll. The 800-meter relay team of Montag, Dockter, Derrick Aho, and Gauer qualified for the state meet with a time of 1:33.70.

The boys 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter relays also earned a first place finish. Running in the mile relay were Montag, Aho, Gauer, and Dockter and the two-mile relay team consisted of Caden Bjordahl, Tanner Bock, Kody Johnson, and Dylan Johnson.
Earning individual wins for the boys were: Gauer (100-meter dash), Nate Bien (110 -meter hurdles), Jake Karges (long jump), and Anderson (triple jump).

_DSC0014 (1)In the girls division, Milbank Area topped the team standings with 89 points. Taylor Thue led the girls with two individual wins in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles. She was also a member of the winning 400-meter relay team. Team members were Mackayla Schuelke, Makayla Johnson, and Elisabeth Schwenn.

Milbank Area will compete at the Groton Kiwanis Invitational Tuesday, April 26. The meet starts at noon.
