The Milbank Police Department, Milbank High School and Beacon Center of Watertown will host a free film showing of The Hunting Ground Monday, May... Sexual Assault Film Shown To Public At MHS

chief_vanvooren (1)The Milbank Police Department, Milbank High School and Beacon Center of Watertown will host a free film showing of The Hunting Ground Monday, May 2, at 7 p.m. at the MHS theatre.

“As police chief and a father I feel this film is a must see for students planning on going to college,” stated Police Chief Boyd VanVooren. “The information provided hopefully will get young adults to think about the dangers of sexual assault.”

The powerful documentary is geared towards high school juniors and seniors and their parents and is free of charge. Sexual assault has come to national attention recently because of what is taking place on college campuses and victims are speaking out and seeking justice. The statistics are staggering with 1 in 5 women being sexually assaulted while in college.

This movie will take you past the numbers to show you the impact on survivors and their families. “We often think this doesn’t or won’t ever affect us, but it does,” stated Angie from the Beacon Center. “Sexual violence affects us all, and we don’t know it because victims are often too ashamed to come forward. We have to alter our attitude towards sexual violence if anything is to change. The first step is to become aware and educate yourself.”
