_DSC0001 (27)The Grant County Christian Service Council will sponsor a Picnic in the Park every Wednesday this summer. Children of all ages can meet for a hot nutritious meal. “The council has been working on this project for nearly a year,” stated council member and organizer of the event, LeAnn Kuper.

The meal will vary but include things such as: casseroles, hotdishes, hot sandwiches, fresh fruits, and vegetables. It will be served from 12 noon to 12:30 p.m. Beginning Wednesday June 1 and continue 10 weeks until August 6. The picnics will be served in the Grant County Courthouse Park, just south of the courthouse building or moved indoors to the courthouse community room in the basement during inclement weather.

No reservations are needed. For questions, contact Heather Rise at Interlakes Community Action at 432-6571.

Children are encouraged to stay and play in the park after the meal and are also encouraged to attend the Summer Reading Program at 2 p.m. at the Grant County Public Library each Wednesday. “Volunteers will be needed to serve each meal,” explained Kuper. “We also envision other groups such as 4-H clubs, churches, or business groups providing games or activities after the meal before the reading program begins.”

The council continues to support the community with service projects for the young and old. The group hosts a back-to-school event in August and sponsors the Angel Tree in December. CSC gave a fruit gift box and bibles to each prisoner in the local jail last Christmas. They hosted a senior citizen celebration in November by providing a meal, food gift boxes, and Old Mill Bucks to those on a limited income. The council also re-carpeted the Community Thrift Shop this year.
