Sixty-three fifth grade students from Koch Elementary School graduated from the D.A.R.E. program. The ceremony was conducted Thursday, May 12, in the school gymnasium.
Four students from each class were given the opportunity to read their drug-free pledge to themselves, their families and friends, and to the D.A.R.E. Program. “I encouraged each student to make realistic goals they will be able to achieve throughout the remainder of their school years,” said Milbank Police Chief Boyd VanVooren. “That way, they are more likely to succeed.”
Students reading their essays were: Adelyn Farrell, Dylan Sonon-Bohn, Preston McCarty, Harley Davis, Avery Whitesitt, Cassidy Schwagel, Brayden Christensen, Sage Locke, Luis Berrones, Ashlyn O’Farrell, Elsie Seffrood, and Noah Garcia.
VanVooren has been a D.A.R.E. instructor for 17 years, one year shy of going the distance with students in Milbank. “This year’s junior class was my first D.A.R.E. class in Milbank,” he noted. “So next year, they will be the first graduates from high school who were also my D.A.R.E. Students.”
Students from Ms. Buhler’s class were: Nicholas Anderson, Kylene Bowen, Chrystian Canaday, Nickolas Cox, Harley Davis, Laura Eilers, Adelynn Farrell, Jorge Franco, Alayna Henderson, Tyler Lee, Preston McCarty, Morgan McConnell, Hillary Morton, Tanner Myers, Carter Phinney, Jasmine Smith, Dylan Sonon-Bohn, Riley Spanton, Anthony St. Martin, Madison Tesch, and Thea Varpness.
Completing the class from Mrs. Korstjens’ room were: Luis Berrones, Jackson Bohlen, Noah Garcia, Piper Grear, Christian Gresens, Kassidy Harder, Isaiah Korstjens, Carter Leddy, Chloe Lee, Max Lightfield, Ximena Lozano, Ashlyn O’Farrell, Rylie Overby, Hailie Pillatzki, Santiago Redondo, Zachariah Ringsaker, Barrett Schneck, Casside Seezs, Elsie Seffrood, Gauge Stengel, and Keara VanHoorn.
Graduating from Mrs. Mielitz class were: Ben Chaires, Brayden Christensen, Mason Cordingley, Jenna Dexter, Mallory Falk, Sammy Femling, Aidan Foell, Sawyer Gauer, Dylan Halverson, Tori Jankord, Eli Johnson, Laura Johnson, Nathan Lease, Ian Liebe, Sage Locke, Owen Neeley, Cadence Pillatzki, Devin Pollock, Hallie Schulte, Cassidy Schwagel, and Avery Whitesitt.
