_DSC0068The Milbank VFW Junior Teeners baseball team suffered two losses to Sisseton Thursday, June 30, in double header action on the road. Milbank fell 21-17 in the opening game and 13-5 in the nightcap.

The two teams battled it out to the finish in game one. Milbank led 2-1 after the opening inning, but fell behind at 5-4 after the second. Sisseton added four more runs in the third to extend its lead at 9-4. The hopes of a comeback for the locals looked bleak when the opponent added five more runs in the fourth inning to further the advantage to 14-4. Milbank came storming back with nine big runs in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 14-13. Unfortunately hope was short-lived as Sisseton tallied seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to go ahead further at 21-13.

Milbank plated two runs in both of the final two innings and held Sisseton scoreless, but the push was just a little too late.

Brodie Holtquist led Milbank with three hits, three runs, one walk and one stolen base. Braden Miller followed with three hits and one run. Keaten Benson contributed two runs, two hits, one walk and one stolen base while Noah Steinlicht added two hits, two runs and one walk for Milbank.
Also assisting to the locals’ offense was Eli Fischer, two runs, three walk and a stolen base; Brady Femling, one hit, one run, one walk and one stolen base; Mason Riley, one hit, one run and one walk; Sam Seffrood, one hit, two runs, one walk and three stolen bases, and Zippy Bock, three runs, three walks and two stolen bases.

Milbank got out to a slower start in the second game, but consistently scores runs in the first four innings. They tallied one run each in the first three innings and two in the fourth, but were unable to hold Sisseton from finding home plate.

Holtquist fired out three hits, including two doubles, and scored three of the team’s five points. Fischer, Femling and Evan Erickson belted out two hits each while Steinlicht, Riley and Benson added one hit apiece.
