_DSC0007 (12)Milbank American Legion Post 9 went 3-3 in recent baseball action last week. The locals split contests with Groton Tuesday, June 28, and went 2-2 in the Milt Simmons tournament in Sioux Falls Friday through Sunday, July 1-3.

Post 9 took on Groton June 28 and suffered an 8-3 loss in the opening game. Groton started off hot and plated four runs in the first inning and three in the second. Milbank came on late in the game with one run in the fourth and two in the sixth, but could not overcome the early deficit.

Milbank tallied its three runs on six hits. Dalton Koch belted out two hits to lead Post 9’s offense. Brady Krause, Jacob Jackson, Tristan Hall and Nolan Foss added one hit apiece in the contest. Jonny Ash was credited with the loss on the mound.

Milbank cruised to a 7-0 victory over Groton in the nightcap. Post 9 scored one run in the first inning before adding three in the third. The locals put the game away with three more runs in the sixth.

Tanner Gauer and Jackson led Milbank with two hits and two runs. Krause and Hall rounded out the team’s six-hit victory. Krause earned the pitching win for Post 9.

Milbank traveled to Sioux Falls last weekend and went 2-2 in the Milt Simmons tournament. In their opening game Friday, Post 9 dropped 7-0 to Eden Prairie, MN. Milbank secured just two hits in the contest. Krause and Koch fired out one hit each in the contest. Boerger was credited with the loss on the mound for Post 9.

Milbank slipped past Winner 5-1 in its first game Saturday. The locals opened the game with one run in the first and one in the third. Post 9 secured the victory with three runs in the fifth inning.

Post 9 secured its five runs on 9 hits. Ash sparked the team with three hits and two runs. Hall and Koch had two hits each while Krause and Anderson added one apiece. Krause was the winning pitcher for Milbank.

The locals were so close but fell by a slight 5-4 margin to Sioux Falls West in its second game Saturday. Sioux Falls started out hot with four runs in the first inning. Milbank plated one run in the second before the opponent extended its lead to 5-1 after three innings. Post 9 came back with one run in the fifth and two in the sixth, but could not get any closer.

Milbank scored four runs on five hits. Krause, Ash, Jackson, Hall and Mitch Quade balanced out the offense with one hit each. Hall was given the pitching loss for Post 9.

Milbank regrouped and came back ready to play Sunday and rolled to a 14-0 win in six innings over Bloomington Gold.

Post 9 got on the scoreboard first with four runs in the second inning. Milbank then used a big fifth inning to score nine runs followed by a lone run in the sixth to close out the tournament with a win.

Quade led Milbank with three of the team’s 13 hits. He also scored two runs. Jackson and Koch contributed two hits and two runs while Krause had two hits and one run in the game. Gomer found home base three times and had one hit, and Ash, Hall and Dylan Johnson added one hit apiece. Boerger earned the victory on the mound for Post 9.
