Bulldogs Rank in Top 10 At Breathe Easy Meet

Four Bulldogs earned a top-10 finish at the Breathe Easy cross country meet at Pine Hills Golf Course in Milbank August 29. The meet was sponsored by the Milbank Tobacco Coalition.

In the varsity girls race, Taylor Thue, Amaya Street, and Danica Schulte placed in the top 10. Thue led the way with a sixth place finish, Street took eighth, and Schulte, ninth.

Thue improved her time by 20 seconds compared to the same meet last season. “Taylor has been one of the top runners for the girls’ team since she started in seventh grade and has developed into a great team leader,” stated Bulldog head coach Eric Townsend. “She spent the summer working on strength and conditioning and that hard work appears to be paying off.”

In the boys division, Zippy Bock led the team with a tenth place finish in his first varsity race. “Zippy really improved from last season when he was battling an injury,” said Townsend. “He had a good summer of running, works hard in practice, and continues to show improvement each day.”
Maiah Brown led the junior varsity girls with a second place finish. Milbank Area claimed six of the top eight places in the boys JV race. Nick Batchelor was the winner;Alex Farrell took second; Ben Harstad, third; Nathan Loutsch, fourth; Landon Brown, fifth; and Jack Sandvig, seventh.
“This was a great start to the 2016 season,” said Townsend. “I thought both teams competed hard and ran well. Runners had to fight some warm and humid conditions, but they handled those elements. It’s always nice to compete at home on our course and have local fans show up to watch.”

The next meet for the Milbank Area teams is the Roe Granger meet in Aberdeen Friday, September 2, at 6:30 pm.
