_dsc0017-9The Lady Bulldogs rolled to a 3-0 victory over the Ortonville Trojans October 6, at the Milbank Armory in front of a full crowd celebrating Pink Night. Milbank Area improved to 13-4 with the win.

The Lady Bulldogs started hesitantly, but maintained control throughout the first set. Milbank Area pushed ahead at 13-9 following an ace by Molly Rick. The teams evened the score at 16-16, but the Lady Bulldogs surged ahead at 20-17 with unforced errors by the Trojans, an ace by Caryssa Mielitz, and a kill by Rick. Milbank Area finished out the first set win at 25-23 with a kill by Mielitz.

Ortonville struggled to put things together in the second set and Milbank Area got out to a quick 12-4 advantage. They continued to widen the gap and took the win at 25-8.

The Lady Bulldogs kept the momentum going in the third set to lead 14-9 midway. Ortonville came back to pull within two points at 21-19, before Rick and Mikaela Hoeke each made a kill. The Trojans committed two errors and the set ended at 25-19 in favor of the Lady Bulldogs.

Mielitz led the team with 12 kills on 27-30 hitting, four aces on 20-20 serving, 5-5 setting, and 17 digs. Rick followed with seven kills on 15-17 hitting, two aces on 9-10 serving, four assists on 5-5 setting, and 16 digs. M. Hoeke tallied five kills on 6-7 hitting, 23 assists on 56-58 setting, one ace on 14-15 serving, and 10 digs. Jaden Hoeke added five kills on 9-10 hitting, two assists on 7-7 setting, and three digs. Jaecy Engebretson went 7-8 hitting with five kills, 6-7 serving, 2-2 setting, and one dig. LaChasity Finley was 3-6 hitting with two kills on 2-2 setting.

Also leading the Lady Bulldogs were: Mackayla Schuelke, two aces on 6-7 serving, three assists on 18-18 setting, and eight digs; Madi Schulte, 4-4 serving, 5-5 setting with one assist, one kill, and 11 digs; Maty Lightfield, 9-9 serving, 3-3 setting and three digs; and Mady Hilbrands, 4-5 hitting with two kills and one dig.

Milbank Area faces a tough schedule this week. They host Madison Tuesday, October 11, before traveling to Redfield-Doland Thursday, October 13. The Lady Bulldogs then wrap up the week by hosting Northwestern Saturday, October 15, at the Milbank Armory.
