The Milbank High School gymnastics team brought home a fourth place trophy from the State Class A gymnastics meet in Aberdeen February 10-11. The team earned the hardware by scoring 127.475 points.

Brooke Fraasch was also awarded the prestigious Sarah Nitz Memorial Award. The award is given each year at the state meet to a senior gymnast who best exemplifies the qualities Sarah strived for – sportsmanship, academics, character, and gymnastic ability. The award is sponsored by South Dakota USA Gymnastics.

Five Lady Bulldogs competed in the individual competition on Saturday. Brooke Fraasch, Mackenzie Weinkauf, Jodi DeVaal, Maddie Gustafson, and Dani Yamaura. The top 15 place winners from each event and the all-around competition received state medals.

Weinkauf was awarded three medals. She placed 11th in the all-around competition, 13th on the floor exercise, and tied for 9th on vault. Fraasch tied for 13th on vault and 15th on the uneven parallel bars.

Madison won the state Class A title with 139.825 points. It was their fourth consecutive state title and the twentieth in the school’s history. Deuel was the runner-up with 137.65 points and Britton-Hecla placed third with 132.80. Other team totals were: Hot Springs, 123.90; West Central, 123.575; Chamberlain, 123.125; Vermillion, 122.90; and Wall-Kadoka-Phillip, 106.65.
