Elsie Emma Steffan, age 90, died on May 20, 2017, at Grace Home in Graceville, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 26, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Graceville. The celebrant will be Father David Breu.

Visitation will be take place at Mundwiler & Larson Funeral Home in Graceville on Thursday, May 25 from 5-7 p.m. A prayer vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to Mass on Friday.

Honorary bearers will be Elsie’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and Steve Chalupnik. Casket bearers will be: Curt Schmidt, Darin Keller, Daryl Keller, Landon Geerdes, Brian Kleindl, Kyle Kleindl, Matthwe Kleindl, and Jason Adams.

Music will be provided by Deb Farwell, organist, and the “Arens Girls”, vocalists.

Elsie Emma Steffan was born on February 1, 1927, in Dickinson, North Dakota to Anton and Rose (Sadowsky) Volesky. She graduated high school in Dickinson, ND in the spring of 1945. Elsie was united in marriage with Frank Anton Steffan on December 30, 1946, at St. Peter’s and Paul’s Catholic Church in New Hradec, ND. To this union five children were born.

Elsie and Frank moved near Graceville, MN in 1962 where her family purchased a farm. She worked tirelessly on the farm and at the Graceville hospital for 32 years where she worked as a Nurse’s Aide. Elsie was a faithful member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She was active with the local Daughters of Isabella Chapter and served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years.

Elsie was a wonderful seamstress, able to make or mend just about anything! She also quilted, giving each grandchild their very own quilt. She cared for large vegetable and flower gardens. Elsie enjoyed cooking and baking, and she was famous for her Kolaches! Her true passion was family, spending all the time she could with her children, grandchildren and extended family.

Elsie is survived by her daughters: Bertilla (Leo) Keller from Bismarck, ND; Bonnie (David) Kleindl of Graceville, MN; Betty (Roger) Adams of Watertown, SD; and Bridget (Jason) Redemske of Watertown, SD; son-in-law, Gary Jacobs of Dumont, MN; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Frances Marsch, Betty Kudrna, and Rose Mary Kovash; and brothers: Robert Volesky and Florian Volesky.

Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; daughter, Beverly Jacobs; son-in-law, Leo Keller; sister, Mary Karsky; brothers: Benjamin and Raymond Volesky; and grandson, Mitchel Kleindl.
