The annual Memorial Day service to honor fallen soldiers was held at the Milbank City Cemetery Monday, May 29. The Birch-Miller Post No. 9 American Legion and Auxiliary, Grant County VFW Post #3486 and Auxiliary, 740th Transportation Company, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 19, Vietnam Veterans Chapter 1054, and the Knights of Columbus posted the colors.

The Reverend DeVern Schwenn gave a brief history of the Allied Invasion of Normandy and highlighted General George S. Patton and President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s reliance on God during that time. His address also paid tribute to the soldiers who served and are still serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Commander Wayne Van Hout served as the emcee. The Milbank Middle School band, under the direction of Susan Karels, performed several musical selections.
