Milbank American Legion Post 9 cruised to a 15-4 victory over Groton Thursday, June 15, at Legion Field, and improved its season record to 9-3.
Milbank got out to a solid start. The locals scored two runs in the first inning when Mitch Quade belted out a home run with two outs. Post 9 surged ahead 8-0 after five innings of play.

The locals then tallied seven runs in the sixth inning. Dom Boerger hit a single followed by a double by Quade. The surge was wrapped up by a big home run by Gage Sayler to give Milbank the 15-0 advantage. Groton answered with four runs in the inning, but it was not enough and the game ended early because of the 10-run rule.

Boerger, Quade and Sayler led the Post 9 offense with two hits each. Boerger scored four runs and had four RBIs. Quade added three runs, four RBIs and two walks while Sayler had two runs and three RBIs to his credit.

Also adding to the team totals for Milbank were Jonny Ash, one hit and one run; Dylan Johnson, one hit and two runs; Tanner Bock, one hit and one RBI; Jake Fox, one hit and one run, and Tate Stricherz and Kacen Huber, one run each.

Boerger started on the mound for Post 9 and went the distance. He struck out 10 batters and allowed four hits, four runs and one walk.
Milbank went 2-2 at the 2017 Dacotah Bank Vern Jark Memorial Wood Bat tournament in Aberdeen last weekend, Friday, June 9, through Sunday, June 11.

Milbank downed Winner-Colome, 6-2, in the opening game Friday. Post 9 was edged out 7-5 by Platte during its first game Saturday before earning a 7-1 victory over Aberdeen Post 24 later in the day. Milbank wrapped up the tournament with a 7-3 loss to Huron.
