McKernan, Letrud, and Hanson Take First at Second Penning Event

“The night was cool and the cattle were ornery,” said organizer Kathy Tyler about the WVRA team penning event June 17. “Just four of the 26 teams were able to pen their three cattle in under 90 seconds.”

Brad Hanson, Gary Letrud and Mike McKernan captured first place. Jenni Bussard, Cody Minder, and Joanie Hills finished second. Third place went to Cheryl Kelly, Gary Letrud, and Steve Hamann.

Seventeen teams vied for the win in the Add ‘Em Up event. “This fast- paced challenge forces riders to do a bit of math,” said Tyler. “You are given a number and must pull three cattle from the herd whose numbers add up to that number.” Cody Minder, Louie Minder, and Steve Hamann won first place with a time of 13.44 seconds. Cheryl Kelly, Keith Kelly, and Blair Wittnebel took second place.
