Lake Farley Summer Events Series Starts Saturday

The 2017 Lake Farley Summer Event Series starts Saturday, June 24, and there’s fun for everyone. Why not plan to spend the day? Start with the Community Parade. The parade starts at 10:30 a.m. and travels north on Main Street to Highway 15 near Lake Farley Park. (Entries are still being accepted and will line up at the Grant County House.)

Take in the annual car show, sponsored by the Full Throttle Cruisers. Vintage beauties will be sunning themselves along the walking path from noon until 3 p.m. Prizes are awarded in several categories. (If you own a vintage car and want to show her off, drive in Saturday morning. No reservations are required and no entry fee.)

South Dakota’s Largest Cornhole Tournament begins at 12:30 p.m. Two-person teams compete for the top prize of $150 in Ol’ Mill bucks and bragging rights. Second prize is $100 in Ol’ Mill bucks. (Teams are welcome to register until game time.)

The water ski show by the Aberdeen Aqua Addicts is free and starts at 3 p.m. on Lake Farley. Milbank Area Chamber Events Director Laura Kelly says,” This water ski show is so amazing – such a talented group. The Aqua Addicts perform an exciting show featuring barefooting, ski jumping, ballet, wakeboard, human pyramid building, and more. It’s all done to music and built around a theme that tells a story. All ages will love it. The full company of about 60 come to Milbank.”

After that, you will need a bite or two. Check out the annual Q-Fest barbeque tasting event. Six cooking teams compete for the coveted award of the best ribs, brisket, and chicken. Public sampling begins at 4:30 p.m. Trophies go to the top cooks in each category.

Still hungry? How about a walking taco or hot dog? Other food vendors will be open from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. No coolers are allowed in the park so head to the beer garden for beer, pop, and water. It stays open all day.
