Gavin Angerhofer, age 62, of Milbank died July 22, 2017, at Milbank Area Hospital – Avera Health.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 25, at 2:00 p.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank. Rev. Nathan Zastrow of Peace Lutheran Church of Milbank will officiate, and burial will be in the Milbank Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday at Emanuel Lutheran Church from 5 – 7 p.m. and continue at the church Tuesday afternoon, one hour prior to the service.

The organist will be Gloria Hanson. Honorary bearers will be the members of the Milbank Fire Department. Casket bearers will be: Gary Foss, Don Weber, William Sprinkel, Dan Bogenrief, Randy Dockter, Al Mathiason, and Howard LaMee.

Gavin Richard Angerhofer was born on November 3, 1954, in Grant County, SD. He was the son of James Angerhofer Sr. and Joan (Smith) Angerhofer. Gavin grew up on the family farm in Grant County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Gavin graduated from Milbank High School and attended two years of Technical College in Canby, MN.

Gavin was united in marriage with Marsha Heuer on September 1, 1979, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in South Shore, SD. Gavin and Marsha made their home in Milbank and were blessed with four children: Eric, Kelly, Kathleen, and Elizabeth. Gavin worked various jobs before his career at McGowan Lumber Company. He purchased Milbank Lumber in 1998, where he and Marsha operated the business until 2016. He was a proud member of the Milbank Fire Department, serving for 25 years.

Gavin loved his family and grandchildren. He had a kind soul and gentle spirit. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and had a genuine concern for others. He loved to brighten people’s day with his sense of humor. He enjoyed playing cards and bowling. He continued his father’s tradition of baking apple pies and making sauerkraut. He also loved trips to the river to fish. Gavin was one of the founding members of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milbank and was a faithful church member. He also served on the school board for Great Plains Lutheran High School.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marsha, of Milbank, SD; his children: Eric Angerhofer of Sioux Falls, SD; Kelly (Jeremy) Van Veen of Aberdeen, SD; Kathleen (Ted) Holscher of Milbank, SD; Elizabeth Angerhofer of Milbank, SD; seven grandchildren: Allison, Stephanie, Alexis, David, Morgan, Lincoln, and Aiden; his mother, Joan Angerhofer, of Rapid City, SD; siblings: James (Sheryl) Angerhofer Jr. of Milbank, SD; Debbie Williams of Polo, MO; Karen (Don) Weber of Rapid City, SD; Vicki (Gary) Foss of Hermosa, SD; and Scott Angerhofer of Watertown, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

Gavin was preceded in death by his father, James Angerhofer Sr.; and a brother-in-law, Ed Williams.
