The Milbank Firechiefs secured a spot in the 2017 South Dakota Class B State Amateur Baseball Tournament as representative #1 from District 1.
The Chiefs will face Freeman in the opening round of the tournament Thursday, August 3, at 5:30 p.m. in Mitchell. The 32-team tournament begins Wednesday, August 2, and runs through Sunday, August 13, with the championship game slated for 2 p.m.

Milbank battled it out with Clark in the championship game of the District 1 tournament Saturday, July 29. In the close matchup, Milbank fell by the slight margin of 2-1. Milbank scored a lone run in the fourth inning to take an early lead. Clark came back to tie the score at 1-1 in the seventh, but slipped in another run in the eighth to take the win.

Tony Hofman led the Chiefs with two hits on the night. Jesse Krause and Tristan Hall added one hit each, with Lance Frogner scoring the only run for Milbank in their five hit game.

Taylor Boerger suffered the pitching loss for the Firechiefs. He went the distance and struck out nine batters. He gave up five hits, two runs and one walk.
