Makenzie was born on May 15, 2002 in Milbank, SD. She was the daughter of Daniel Pies and Robin Amberg-Pies. She has an older brother, Daniel, and a younger sister, Taylar.
Makenzie grew up in the Milbank area and went to high school in Milbank, where she completed the 9th grade. Makenzie is a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church where she was baptized, confirmed, and active in the youth group.
Makenzie was always willing to help others and was very generous. She loved her sports, camping fishing, and hunting. She loved her horses, chickens, and was a definite “country girl” and some would call a “Red Neck Girl”.
Many saw Makenzie as a hard worker, dedicated to her friends, family and studies. She had a great sense of humor and was outspoken. Makenzie was comfortable with herself and didn’t care what others thought. She would do anything for anyone and could be counted on as a responsible person.
Left to cherish her memory are her parents: Daniel Pies of LaBolt, SD; and Robin Amberg-Pies of Milbank, SD; siblings: Daniel Pies of Labolt, SD, and Taylar Pies of Milbank, SD; grandparents: Robert and Nancy Amberg of Wessington Springs, SD; Margaret Lindberg of Milbank, SD; and Clarence (Ruth) Pies of Rapid City, SD.
