John Schuelke

John Edward Schuelke, age 88 of Milbank, SD, formerly of Revillo & LaBolt, died peacefully August 28, 2017 at St Williams Care Center with family by his side.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, Sept 4th at 10:30am at Annunciation Catholic Church in Revillo with Padre Da’vid Garza officiating. A luncheon at the Revillo Community Center will follow the service with burial in the St. James Cemetery, Nassau, MN after the luncheon.

Visitation will be on Sunday Sept 3rd at Annunciation Catholic Church from 5 – 7 pm with a prayer vigil at 7pm and visitation will continue one hour prior to the Mass on Monday.

Music will be provided by Millie Roggenbuck and Mick Manresa.

Urn bearer is Michael Schuelke.

John was born in Lac Qui Parle County, MN on May 16, 1929. He grew up on a farm near Nassau, MN and attended rural school. He was the son of Andrew and Martha (Totzke) Schuelke. John was the second youngest child of nine children. His father died when he was only 10 years old. He was united in marriage on June 1, l950 with Lucille Jane Schulz. Soon after, the couple moved to a farm in Grant County, SD near Revillo. Lucille died suddenly on June 14, 1986. John retired from farming in 1990 after more than 40 years. He married Dorothy Berg of LaBolt on December 8, 1990. Dorothy died June 7, 2015.

John was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Nassau, MN until 1990. He then joined Annunciation Catholic Church in Revillo and was a member until his death. He served on the board of Annunciation Catholic Church, on the Vernon District 5 School Board, as well as two terms on the Vernon Township board. John was known for his skills in woodworking and repairing farm machinery and equipment. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, hunting, fishing, card playing, watching football – not just the MN Vikings and family reunions.

John is survived by his five sons: Mike(Karen), Madison, MN, Greg(Peggy), Phoenix, AZ, Jeff(Peggy), Revillo, Richard(Ginny), Howard Lake, MN and Brian, Rochester, MN; three daughters: Suzanne(Mick) Manresa, Boulder, CO, Barb(Jon) Ake, Lakewood, CO, and Kathy(Garry) Colasardo, Black Hawk, SD.

Thirteen grandchildren & almost 14 great-grandchildren, Michelle(Dallas) Croatt, Dylan & Morgan, Madison, MN, Jennifer Schuelke, Fargo, ND, Teresa(Alex) Adolph, Ethan & Alexa, Twin Brooks, Brad Schuelke, Phoenix, AZ, Russell(Robin) Schuelke, Max, Emmett & Reese, Revillo, Daniel Schuelke, Morrison, CO, Rachel(Billy) Wyant, Billy IV & Lucille(Lucy), Davenport, IA, Hannah Schuelke, Minneapolis, MN, Blaine Reynolds, Washington DC, John(Melissa) Schuelke, Taylor & an Oct baby, Burnsville, MN, Andrew Schuelke, Montrose, MN, Phil(Lauren) Ake, Hazel & Scarlett, Golden, CO and Jeff(Erin) Ake & a Sept baby, Golden, CO. Brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Marita Schuelke, Madison, MN, Arne and Betty (Schulz) Peterson, Longmont, CO, and many nieces & nephews.

Also preceding him in death were his two sisters: Margaret Hackert and Mary Anne Olson; and six brothers: Donald, Virgil, James, Jerome, Robert and Charles Schuelke.
