Milbank High School will celebrate Homecoming 2017 from September 25-29. The theme is Superheroes. The week starts with Homecoming Coronation Monday, September 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. Selected as candidates to vie for the title of MHS King and Queen are: Shea Hooth, daughter of Corey and Nicole Hooth; Maty Lightfield, daughter of John and Kim Lightfield; Molly Rick, daughter of Jolene and Chris Rick; Katie Vander Wal, daughter of Dawn and Paul Vander Wal; Derrick Aho, son of Tara Aho; Jonny Ash, son of Kristen Ash and Craig Ash; Shawn Stemsrud, son of Robin and Steve Stemsrud; and Adam Thomas, son of Joni and Greg Thomas.

Representing the underclassmen are juniors MaKayla Johnson, daughter of Becky and James Johnson, and Alec Bien, son of Sheila and Lance Bien; sophomores Morgan Schafer, daughter of Sara Schafer and Chris Schafer, and Sam Seffrood, son of Anne and John Seffrood; and freshmen Madi Thue, daughter of Amy and Chad Thue, and Mason Riley, son of Holly and Mike Riley.

The 2016 Homecoming King, Nate Bien, will return from South Dakota State University to crown the new royalty.

Each class will entertain the crowd during Coronation. The senior class skit will be SpongeBob. The juniors will be Batman. The sophomores have Superman, and the freshmen, Spiderman. Judging will be held for the class skits and class floats. Coronation activities conclude with the annual hot dog feed in the cafeteria and the Burning of the “M” in the parking lot east of the school and north of the football field.

Dress up days are Monday – Superhero Day; Tuesday – PJ Day; Wednesday – Rain vs. Shine Day; Thursday – Decade Day; and Friday – Maroon and Gold Day. The student council also sponsors various activities including a bean bag tournament Friday morning.

The week concludes with the Homecoming parade at 2 p.m. Friday, September 29. The Milbank Bulldogs take on the Groton Tigers in the Homecoming football game at 7 p.m. at AB Campbell Stadium.

Extra-curricular activities scheduled throughout homecoming week include: Monday – JV football here with Morris, Region 1A boys golf tournament at Dell Rapids; Tuesday – Girls tennis here with Aberdeen Roncalli, volleyball here with Tiospa Zina; and Thursday – Cross country meet at Sisseton, girls tennis at Benson, volleyball at Hamlin.

Student council members will be covering the business district selling Homecoming buttons during the week. They will also be selling buttons at St. Lawrence School on Tuesday from 7:45-8:15 a.m., and at Koch School on Wednesday from 7:45-8:15 a.m. Buttons cost $1.
