The MHS band is ready to take their show on the road. Their first appearance is the 2017 Homecoming Parade. This year, Kimberlly Aburto leads the group as the drum major. Shawn Stemsrud is the assistant drum major, and Amberly Warren is the field show drum major. Assistant conductors for the band are Ben Harstad and Landon Brown. Jodi DeVaal serves as the color guard captain.

Mrs. Susan Karels, MHS band director, is in her 26th year leading the group. She said. “We have 115 high school band members and 118 middle school members this year. That is the most students I have had in the past nine years.”

Shawn Stemsrud serves as the president of the Band Council and Adam Thomas as vice-president. Student representatives are Kimberlly Aburto, Rebecca Loehrer, Amberly Warren, and Heather Bray. Band secretaries are Christina Lusk, Sophia Seffrood, Tanner Kettwig, and Jenny Seehafer. Band treasurers are Angie Hoeke and Maddy Liebe.

The 27 MHS seniors in the band include: Kimberlly Aburto, Jonny Ash, Devon Balling, Heather Bray, Jodi DeVaal, Andrew Falk, Angie Hoeke, Sadie Holland, Tanner Kettwig, Maddy Liebe, Maty Lightfield, Becca Loehrer, Christina Lusk, Isaac Nolz, Chase Pinkert, Zach Pinkert, Brittany Preller, Jenny Seehafer, Sophia Seffrood, Grace Spiering, Shawn Stemsrud, Adam Thomas, Cassidy Voeltz, Amberly Warren, Ramsey Wieber, Luke Wold, and Isaiah Wollschlager.

The MHS band marches during three events this year. They will be featured during Homecoming week and Band Night on October 13. The band also competes at Gypsy Days at NSU in Aberdeen on September 30.
