The Lady Bulldogs fought hard and hung close, but were downed by Deubrook 3-0 in non-conference high school volleyball Tuesday, October 4, at the Milbank Armory. Deubrook, come to town with a 14-5 record. They counted wins against Arlington, Hamlin, and Sisseton – teams the Bulldogs also face.

In the first set, Milbank Area was edged out 25-23. In the second set, the Lady Bulldogs trailed early 12-4, before making a comeback to knot the score at 14-14. Milbank Area eventually fell 25-19. In the third set, they were defeated 25-12.

Molly Rick led the Lady Bulldogs’ attack with 14 kills on 36-46 hitting. Jaecy Engebretson followed with nine kills on 31-31 hitting, one ace on 9-10 serving, nine assists on 33-34 setting, and 14 digs. Jaden Hoeke contributed four kills on 11-13 hitting, one ace on 11-11 serving, and one block. Gabbi Cummins made three aces on 10-12 serving and 11 digs, and Maty Lightfield had nine assists on 34-35 setting and 15 digs.

Milbank Area hosts Ortonville Thursday, October 5, at the Milbank Armory. The C team takes on Wilmot at 4:45 p.m. The junior varsity meets Ortonville at 6 p.m. The varsity match follows.
