It’s time to organize your 2018 It Only Takes a Spark cancer walk team. All you need is your friends, family, neighbors, business, or group willing to walk and raise money for those afflicted with cancer. There are no age restrictions. Team captains meet monthly with the Core Committee to help coordinate fundraising events and plan the cancer walk.

The cancer walk is held every year in June. This year, the Core Committee has revamped the format. Teams now have the option of staying all night or leaving at midnight.

Last July, the Grant County Cancer Board, the board that distributes the funds to cancer patients, reported it was financially assisting 104 cancer patients in the greater Grant County area. Funds are raised throughout the year, and at least 70 percent is spent on local patient expenses. Another 20 percent goes to local patient expenses, to a local cancer support group, or towards cancer-related equipment at local health facilities.
