The Valley Express sponsored an evening of glitz and glamour Saturday night at the annual Milbank Snow Queen Festival. Katie Vander Wal was crowned the new 2018 Miss Milbank. She is the daughter of Paul and Dawn Vander Wal. Katie was sponsored by Dakota Country Feed & Seed, First Bank & Trust, and Zem’s Fresh Start Bakery. Clare Van Dover, 2017 Miss Milbank, crowned her successor.
Christina Lusk was named first runner-up and wins a $250 scholarship. Christina DiNatale was second runner-up and wins a $150 scholarship.
Thirty-two kindergarten girls also vied for the title of Little Miss Milbank. Marley Pinkert, the daughter of Justin and Katie Pinkert, is this year’s winner.
While the judges deliberated, entertainment was provided by Samantha and Abbey Converse. The sisters, who auditioned last year for American Idol, performed two selections of music, “Clarity” by Zedd and “A Life That’s Good” by Nashville Cast. Milbank Police Chief Boyd VanVooren was revealed as Mystery Snowman.
