The City of Milbank and the Twin Brooks area, experienced a power outage early this morning, Tuesday, November 14, due to a transmission outage.

According to Scott Wiese, spokesman for Otter Tail Power Company, a splice failed on the transmission line by the south substation, causing the outage. “We are replacing a transmission switch on our normal feed to Milbank this week,” he said. “With that line out of service, we are on the backup transmission line to town. When our transmission system is intact, we have the ability to isolate this line section which would have shortened this morning’s outage considerably.”

The power went out shortly before 6 a.m. and lasted approximately one hour and 45 minutes. The Milbank School District started school one hour late after power was restored.
