Schmidt’s Landing Resort and Lakeside Suites on Big Stone Lake was sold at auction Friday, December 1, at the Big Stone American Legion. The resort, a focal point on Big Stone Lake for decades, was sold to the top bidders Adam and Jeny Koplin of Milbank. The couple paid $850,000. The closing and change of possession is scheduled for February 1, 2018.
The property was put up for auction by Jim and Donna Gregory, who have owned and operated the business since 1994. Girard Auction & Land Brokers, Inc. of Wakonda conducted the live and online auction. Two online offers – one for $500,000 and another for $600,000- opened the bidding, and two bidders volleyed during the live auction.
Jeny Koplin has a degree in hotel/restaurant management and industry experience. The Koplins reside south of Milbank, but will relocate to the lake to take over the business.
Schmidt’s Landing sits on 16.5 acres of which 5.89 acres are actively used for the resort. It features 680 feet of fully developed lakeshore and bills itself as a full-service, family orientated resort. Services include: 14 lakeside suites, 10 full service RV pads, general campground with nine 20/30 amp service pedestals, boat and motor rental, a private boat ramp, and a convenience store with an on-off sale malt beverage license.
