MHS Cheerleaders Spark School Spirit

Seven seniors are cheering on the MHS winter sports teams. Leading the boys basketball cheer squad are Maty Lightfield, Brittany Preller, and Sadie Holland. Seniors on the girls basketball and wrestling cheer squads are Magally Aburto, Catrina Janitschke, Christy DiNatale, and Amberly Warren. Also on the cheerleading squads are: Jessica Pillatzki, Taylor Dragt, Kimberly Van Sambeek, and Makenna Osowski for boys basketball; and Ashley Spors for girls basketball. The four senior basketball cheerleaders also cheer for home wrestling matches.

According to Kelsey Peery, Milbank Area’s winter cheer advisor, “My main goal for the girls this year is for them to have fun and make good memories to look back on.” Peery, who is in her second season as the winter cheer advisor, went on to say, “It was so fun to watch the student fans get into the games and cheer during the football season. I am hoping that continues on to the winter sports. Everyone has more fun when the student body is rooting their team on.”

The squads mainly cheer at home events and possibly some double-header basketball games. “We will also travel to the region, Sweet 16, and state basketball games, if the teams make it,” Peery said.
