The 2018 Milbank youth wrestling program holds its registration and parent meeting Thursday, December 7, at 6 p.m. in the Milbank High School lunchroom. “It’s never too late to be involved in a life-long learning experience,” says Milbank Wrestling Booster Club President Ron Krause. “Even if you have never been involved in wrestling or have not wrestled for several years, you are welcome to join the Milbank wrestling community.”

The program is open to athletes pre-kindergarten to sixth grade. Wrestlers in second grade and younger practice Mondays and Thursdays from 6 to 6:45 p.m. Wrestlers in grades three and older practice Mondays and Thursdays from 7 to 8 p.m. and Tuesdays from 6 to 7 p.m. A complete practice schedule and starting dates will be provided at the meeting.

Prior to each practice, coaches will announce upcoming weekend tournaments. Parents or guardians are responsible for getting their wrestler to and from the weekend tourneys. “We encourage our wrestlers to attend as many weekend tournaments as possible, but the number a youth wrestler attends is up to each family,” says Krause.

Milbank hosts their annual youth tournament on Friday, February 9. Wrestlers also have the opportunity to participate in AAU district, region, and state tournaments. The tournaments are sponsored by the SD Wrestling Coaches Association. Tentative dates are March 3 for Districts, March 10 for Regions, and March 24-25, for State.

Coaches for the youth program are Brian Schneck and Jon Christensen. Board members are Ron Krause, president; Josh Schmeichel, vice-president, and Sherri Schneck, treasurer.

Membership is $35 per wrestler or $60 per family plus a $14 AAU card for each wrestler. A $60 deposit for the singlet (uniform) is required and will be refunded once the singlet is returned at the conclusion of the season. Scholarships are available. To inquire, call Sherri Schneck at 605-237-2377. All inquiries remain confidential.
