Milbank Area suffered a loss to Aberdeen Roncalli Thursday, December 14, at the Milbank Armory. The Lady Cavaliers defeated the Lady Bulldogs 59-32.

Milbank Area played solid basketball throughout the first half and trailed by just four points at 13-9 after one quarter of play. The Lady Bulldogs remained behind at 27-21 at the midway point.

“We played with energy in the first half,” stated Lady Bulldog Head Coach Brian Pauli. “We were active and anticipated on defense which made things difficult for Roncalli’s offense. We did a good job of finding the mismatches on the offensive side.”

In the second half, Milbank Area struggled to get into an offensive rhythm and turned the ball over several times. The Lady Bulldogs scored just eight points in the third quarter while Roncalli fired in 20 points. The Lady Cavaliers led 47-29 heading into the final stanza and defeated the Lady Bulldogs 59-32.

“In the second half, Roncalli raised their game and we were not able to match it,” Coach Pauli said. “I saw positive things in the first half, which we will build on, so we can put together a full game.”

Molly Rick led the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points, four rebounds, and one assist. Gabbi Cummins followed with seven points, three rebounds, one blocked shot, and four steals. Ashley Wollschlager tallied five points. Taylor Thue added four points, two rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Sophia Seffrood also dropped in four points, snared seven rebounds, and blocked one shot. Adding to the totals for Milbank were: Jaecy Engebretson, two points and one rebound; Shea Hooth, three rebounds; and Jaden Hoeke, two rebounds and one steal.

Milbank went 10-of-37 from the field for 27 percent shooting. They were 4-of-19 for 21 percent in the second half and made just one three-pointer. The Lady Bulldogs finished the game with 26 rebounds, six steals, two assists, and two blocked shots. They committed 19 turnovers.

Roncalli made 54 percent of their shots from the field – hitting 21 of 39 attempts. The Cavaliers secured the victory with 26 rebounds, eight steals, and one assist. They had 10 turnovers.

Milbank travels to Warner on Tuesday, December 19. They wrap up play before the Christmas break by hosting Webster Friday, December 22, at the Milbank Armory.
