The Milbank Area Lions Swim Team faced new competition during the Sioux Falls Swim Team Winter Invitational December 15 – December 17. MALST faced 16 teams in the three-day meet.

“There were quite a few teams we have never matched up with, so it was good for us to see some new competition,” said MALST Head Coach Jodi Street. “This was also the first meet of our winter season where all our swimmers took on the 400 Individual Medley (IM). I was very pleased to see how they put the multi-stroke distance event together in a short course pool.”

All four of Milbank’s swimmers in the meet had time cuts and personal best swims. Savanna Osowski cut four seconds off her 100 backstroke and 3.39 seconds off her 500 freestyle. Amaya Street cut time and posted personal bests in all eight of her events. Max Kuecker knocked off time in his 200 backstroke and 100 butterfly. Street and Kuecker also added state-qualifying events to their ticket to the state meet. Will Karels was the top timecutter with an 18.15 second drop in his 500 freestyle.

“Will accomplished this after swimming four tough events prior to the 500,” said Coach Street. “It was a great way for him to end the meet.”
