The Milbank Lady Bulldogs got back in the win column with a 51-46 victory over strong rival, the Ortonville Trojans. The locals moved their record to 5-6 with the win that was part of doubleheader high school basketball action in Ortonville Tuesday, January 23.
“​It is nice to get a win,” stated Milbank head coach Brian Pauli. “I thought we did some good things for the most part. We still have some areas we must improve on.”
The teams battled closely throughout the contest. Milbank held a three point advantage at 26-23 at halftime. A slight two-point advantage in the second half gave Milbank the 51-46 victory.
Jaecy Engebretson led the Lady Bulldogs with 13 points, one rebound and two steals. Taylor Thue followed with nine points, seven rebounds, one assist, one steal and one blocked shot. Sophia Seffrood chipped in with eight points, four boards, two assists and two steals. Gabbi Cummins and Molly Rick each added seven points to the team score. Cummins grabbed seven rebounds and had three assists while Rick snared four rebounds and had four steals on the night.
Also contributing for Milbank were Lindsey Mertens, six points, one rebound, one assist and one steal, and LaChasity Finley, one rebound and one steal.
Milbank made 38 percent of their shots from the field, hitting 18 of 47 attempts. The Lady Bulldogs wrapped up the victory with 31 rebounds, 11 steals, seven assists, one blocked shot and 10 turnovers.
Ortonville went 18-for-49 from the field for 37 percent shooting. The Trojans ended the game with 43 rebounds, six steals, three assists, one blocked shot and 18 turnovers.
